Abstract

This article presents an orderly account of the genres of Byzantine rhetoric and exposes the main features of each, looking more closely at the so-called "mirror of princes." The study, in accordance with due epistemological Greek names, shows how Byzantine parenetic compositions of this kind are related, historical and philological, with the ancient rhetorical tradition of Isocrates.
