The purpose of this paper is to argue for the epistemic distinction of organizational studies, which have an object of study, a research methodology and a developed theory. Also the peculiarity of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary that characterize them when it comes to understand and intervene in organizations. It is discussed links and complementarities with management science and other social sciences, raisin the need to provide an organizational studies epistemic identity through the foundation of its philosophical, methodological and theoretical principles by creating a research programme from the perspective of Imre Lakatos.
