The article describes the creation process of the new career in early childhood education at the University of Chile, including its historical background, the elements taken on carrying out its design, the innovative emphasis and features, and finally a synthesis of the proposal reflected in the curriculum. Challenges are discussed, not only for the University but also for the country. The information for this article has been gathered from the work carried out, more than a year and a half, by a team of teachers, early childhood educators, professionals of the Universidad de Chile, who were counselled by the experts of the Innovation Net. This was the reference for the proposal to initiate the career.
