Abstract

The political peace that is imposed in Chile since 1987 has to do with political changes in the world. Also the coherence and the image of success of its foreign policy and, in general, of its relationship with the international system, are marked by global changes. The change in Chilean political culture was part of a transformation of global political legitimacy. It was a dramatic demonstration of how closely related national history is to that of his world. The period between 1990 and 2006 represents years of great stability and permanence. The transformations have to do with the evolution over time of the international system, in the different layers in which the Chilean State and society are inserted. Continuity remains the most distinctive mark of foreign policy of these years, although the environment shows no minor transformations and discontinuities.
