Abstract

The recently signed Partial Scope Agreement between Chile and India is the first signed by the latter with a Latin American country, and the first between Chile and a South Asian country. Based on an examination of the emergence of a “new India” on the international scene, this article analyzes the implications of this agreement from the point of view of what bilateral trade flows have been in the last decade and the obstacles with which they have stumbled. We argue that although the growth potential of the Chile-India trade is considerable, for it to materialize, a much more proactive attitude will be required from the actors involved, especially the national business community.
