Abstract

After the enormous changes that have occurred on the world stage in 1989 and 1990, does it make sense to continue talking about the Third World and all that it implies? To answer this question, an analysis is carried out on the concept and evolution of the term Third World and refers to the situation of the countries of the South at the end of the Cold War, affirming that the North-South problem continues. The type of development and the role that these countries must undertake within the new institutional framework that prevails in a globalized world is examined, referring especially to the possibilities facing Latin America. Due to the above, it is concluded that South-South ties should be strengthened and the North-South relations agenda renewed.
