Abstract

In this work, we examine the trends that are favorable or adverse to the formation of a Latin American regional subsystem that, through its own presence and consistent behavior, can improve its participation in the international system. Its future is conditioned by the position it occupies in the world context. This position, in turn, depends on the degree of coherence of the foreign policies of the countries of the region. We maintain that the improvement of the international participation of Latin America depends, fundamentally, on the degree of unity that the countries of the region achieve and the degree of harmonization of their foreign policies. Hence the importance of examining the trends that are favorable or adverse to this type of evolution, in the consolidation of which the role that the integration processes that are developing in Latin America and their eventual convergence will be essential.
