The dynamism of the contemporary international system, particularly that of the post-cold war era, admits significant changes in the world agenda and suggests the adaptation of the State to the traditional aspirations of nations, together with the new demands and challenges posed by an expansive, interdependent, increasingly transnational and efficiently mobilized civil society. This broad and dynamic context of the current international scenario admits a conceptual and analytical reflection on the renewed and / or modified role of the nation-state in the globalizing processes of world politics, recognizing, at the same time, its constant gravitation and influence. To illustrate this argument and based on the discussion of internationalists and specialized literature, this article proposes and exemplifies some features and aspects of the current debate on the validity of the sovereignty of States, within the framework of intellectual cultural traditions and the classic paradigms of international relations.
