Publishing Ethic Guidelines and Declaration about Negligence:
Punto Género magazine's aims to publish articles which meet high quality and ethical standards. This is why ethic responsibility is present in the process of reception, evaluation and publication of the magazine articles. Revista Punto Género ensures all members of the magazine (author, editorial team, evaluators and editorial) keep a strict ethical commitment, hence, plagiarism and another ethical faults are not allowed.
Editorial team’s responsibilities:
Selecting a publication: The editorial team of Revista Punto Género must meet the ethical standards, and it is responsible for the selection of the published articles.
Non-discrimination clause: The author’s race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, nationality, or political will not influence the articles evaluation.
Confidentiality agreement: The Editorial and Editorial Committee cannot disclose information regarding the articles to anyone other than the author(s).
Transparency and interests: The editorial team cannot use material from unpublished articles for its own investigations without the express written consent of the author. Thus, the editorial team should refrain from publishing articles that present a conflict in any possible way, whether it involves, competitive or mutual conflict with institutions, companies, authors.
Reviewers and evaluators' responsibilities:
1. Confidenciality: Evaluators will not know the autorship of the article revised. The submitted article wil be confidential, and it shall not discused or shared with third parties or other individuals. 2. Evaluation: Evaluations provide critic information to the Editorial as they have influence in its decisions. Evaluators offer suggestions to improve the article quiality through the comunication with the Editorial. 3. Compromise: Evaluators must inform and reject an article evaluation in case of not having sufficient knowledge of a subject, or when not evaluating in a timely manner. 4. Neutrality: Critics must be neutral and opinions must be supported with reasonable grounds. 5. Proper source identification: Evaluators must check the submitted article sources, ensuring the latter are correctly cited and there are no subtantial similarities with other published works. 6. Transparency and interest: Evaluators must refrain form evaluating articles that may represent or rise to conflicts of interests with institutions, companies, authors, etc.
Author responsibilities:
Authentic work and plagiarism: Authors must submit an original investigation, which has not been previously published. Bibliographical references must be correctly cited. Plagiarism will not be tolerated, as it is considered unethical.
Principles of the investigation: An author must ensure that either her/his original work, or a similar one, is not currently being submitted in multiple magazines. This kind of conduct is unethical and will not be tolerated.
Article authorship: Authorship belongs to those who made a considerable contribution to the production, design, execution, or comprehension of the article. All individuals who have made a considerable contribution must be considered as co-authors. And those who made a substantial addition to the investigation must be identified as contributors.
Transparency and interests: Authors must report any financial or other self-interest conflict that that might have influenced the results or interpretations in the investigation. All investigation that has been financed must be informed.
Fundamental errors in a published investigation: Whenever the author notes a typographical error or other kind of mistake in an investigation which has already been published she/he must contact the Editorial in order to correct the article.
Procedure to handle unethical conduct:
- Identification of an unethical conduct:
When an unethical conduct or action is detected, it must be reported to the Revista Punto Género’s editor.
Plagiarism and falsification are some examples of unethical conduct and actions.
Whoever is reporting the unethical conduct or action must present enough information and evidence to open an investigation. All complains must be considered until either a result or an agreement is reached.
- Investigation:
The editor is responsible for the correct election of the investigation. She/he may ask for advice from the Editorial Comittee, editorial board, or external evaluators.
Evidence must be colected in a well-ordered and serious manner.
- Punishment (listed in order of seriousness):
Notifying the author or evaluator about a misunderstanding, or about the incorrect application of the magazine’s ethic guidelines in her/his article.
Warning the author via letter or declaration, explaining the unethical actions.
Publishing a formal observation detailing the inappropriate conduct.
Publishing an editorial comment detailing the inappropriate conduct.
Formally withdrawing from circulation and deleting the works in question from the magazine, as well as notifying the evaluating group and audience of the publication.
Executing a formal embargo –for as long as the Editorial Committee estimates− in which the author at ethical fault cannot publish in Punto Género magazine.

RECEPTION: In order to publish the submitted manuscript as an article in Punto Género, it must be categorized in one of the aforementioned magazine sections. The submitted document must be saved in format Word 2003 (.doc); it must be named: Name and Surname of the first author; and it must be sent as an attached document to the mail puntogenero@facso.cl. The mail “Subject” must mention the magazine section for the article (Contingency Articles; Academic Articles; Public Policy and Social Interventions; Undergraduate Students; or Reviews). An “acknowledgement of receipt” will be sent to all those who sent their articles and met the requirements.
ARTICLE DESIGN GRUIDELINES: Spanish or Portuguese language. Text formatting: Arial 11, with simple spacing and justified text. Paper size: Letter (or A4), margin of 2,5 cm. There must be an empty space between a title and a subtitle, and between a title or a subtitle and the text. If you desire to highlight a sentence, please use italics. Avoid underline and bold text.
ARTICLE BODY AND ORDER: Title and/or a subtitle. Author’s name. Reference the author using an asterisk symbol (*) and a footnote; for example: Juan Riquelme* (footnote: *Dr. Metodología de Investigación Social, Sociólogo, académico Facultad de Ciencias Sociales, Universidad de Chile). Biographic notes of authors cannot exceed 6 lines. Abstracts must be provided in both the original language of the article (Spanish or Portuguese) and in English, in maximum 150 words, with 5 Key Words in both languages.
ARTICLE EXTENTION (as a whole): Contingency Articles: 5.000 to 10.000 words. Academic Articles: 8.000 to 10.000 words. Public Policy and Social Interventions: 8.000 to 10.000 words. Undergraduate Students: 5.000 to 10.000 words. Reviews: 1.000 to 3.000 words.
SELF-CITATIONS: Only a 15% of the bibliographic citations is allowed to make a reference to previous works of the author.
- BIBLIOGRAPGY FORMAT: Bibliography must be at the end of the article, in alphabetical order, and it must include only the authors cited in the body of the article and in the footnotes. Examples:

- QUOTTIONS: Authors’ quotation in the body of the article and in footnotes:
a) Textual quotation: i. must be written in italics, using quotation marks, and must specify author, text, and pages. For example: "El concepto de "amor" puede entenderse, precisamente, como prácticas de relación socio-sexuales y no sólo como emociones que habitan dentro de las personas" (Jónasdóttir, 1993: 21). ii. If the quotation is over three lines long, the quotation must be separated from the body of the article in another paragraph, using justified text and one extra centimetre margin both at the left and the right (compared to the body of the article). The instructions for the author’s name are the same as those previously described.
b) When quotations are not textual, please follow this example: Julieta Kirkwood (1987) señala que el concepto patriarcado tiene un antecedente en la teoría sociológica desarrollada por Max Weber.
- GRAPHS OR TABLES. Graph and table format:
a) Use Arial, 10.
b) Graphs and tables’ size must NOT exceed the described page margins.
c) Graphs and tables must be numerated (Ex.: Cuadro 1, Gráfico 2, etc.); and mention the source of the information (Ex.: INE (2005:15); Elaboración propia en base a INE (2002)).
- REVIEWS. Reviews must be about publications, books magazines, novels, films, or other material that encourages the reflection of contemporary and recent topics and problems concerning gender studies in Chile and Latin America. It is expected that these materials are no more than 3 years old by the time the review is submitted.
REVIEW RECEPTION: The same procedure is followed for both reviews and articles.
